Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) are an established filtration process for the targeted removal of specific molecular compounds. MIPs have been developed for the wine industry by New Zealand firm amaea and are available in New Zealand exclusively from Vintech Pacific.
Molecularly Imprinted Polymers are, a smart filtration media uniquely designed to selectively capture molecules from wine. Each MIP surface contains countless binding sites, allowing precise fitting of target molecules into the binding pockets during filtration. This selective process ensures removal of undesirable components, preserving the integrity of desirable molecules.
The outcome is an improvement in the sensory profile of the wine.
With the ability to adjust the treatment profile depending on variety and target compound, clients can tailor the desired sensory profile of the wine.
This technology is a subtractive process, eliminating the need for additives, reducing product movements and reducing associated product losses and labour costs.
